You can also create a filter for emails according to what groups you have created in your contacts.
Click on the "Gear" in the upper right, then Setting.
Click on "Filters and Blocked Addresses"
Click "Create a new filter" and enter the group name into the "From" box. It will show all the users in the group.
Set the other settings as you see fit.
You can have emails with multiple labels.
